We provide Northwest Indiana, including the Indiana Dunes and Lake Michigan coast, fun, unique walking tours, classes, education materials and environmental consulting. We also serve clients online and in the city and suburbs of Chicago.

Spectacular Biodiversity

Northwest Indiana, including the Calumet area and the southern coast of Lake Michigan, is a globally significant biodiversity hotspot. The area stretches from the southeast side of Chicago to Michigan City in Indiana, and includes the Indiana Dunes National Park. The area was stewarded, sculpted and ecologically enriched by Native Americans for at least 10,000 years.

The range of ecosystems, soil types and micro-climates allowed our region to become one of the most important centers for unique plants used for food, medicine, building materials, dyes and beauty.  It was an important trade center as well as a sacred place where people gathered to exchange knowledge about plants and other aspects of an environmentally sustainable culture.

The area is also the birthplace of the science of ecology. Did you know that  there are also more native orchids in Northwest Indiana than in any other area of the United States?
